Going on a Scavenger Hunt

This afternoon at limes we put together a 'Nature Scavenger Hunt' for the kiddos. It was so cute to see them get into their teams, although getting them into these said teams was a difficult task, and watching them get so excited to receive their clipboard with the list of items.

Each Team Had:
* One Leader
* One Clipboard
* One 'Scavenger Hunt' List
* A 'treasure' bag
* And a group of excited kids.


The teams set out, and were on the move to be the first team to win the coveted prize; who knew sour gumballs would be such a hit.

Our Weekend Adventures

I have officially been on the island for one month. In that month I have done a ton. However, I think out of the 30 days or so that I have been here, I have had one night out with my husband.

Our first date night in Grenada, at Le Chateau. Our apartment is almost directly across the street.

So, finally after a long 30 days of patiently waiting (no really, I have learned to be all ninja-like when Dave is home so that he can study peacefully....a huge task for me lol), a very stressful two weeks of studying for Dave and many nights going to bed before Dave, and him leaving before I am even awake, exams were finally over and we had a glorious weekend together!

I had a huge list of plans and activities, but since my husband works so hard he got the final say this weekend....no hikes, no renting kayaks, no touring every beach on the island (ok, so my plans were a little crazy) all my hard working husband wanted to do was spend time together relaxing, and working on our tans!

Friday, promptly after finishing his micro biology exam, we gathered our essentials (Sunscreen, towels, and bought cold drinks from IGA) and headed to Grand Anse Beach.  You could tell exams had finished as almost all of the other fourth term students had the same idea as Dave: spend every moment possible at the beach!

After spending the afternoon laying out with friends, we headed to our anniversary dinner.

Our five year wedding anniversary was on August 18th (where has fiver years gone??),  but unfortunately I was still working away in Canada. So, our five year wedding anniversary was celebrated this weekend!!  We went to a restaurant here that we have heard so much about and were not disappointed, it was phenomenal!

I cannot believe that five years have come and gone. We have done, seen, shared and grown so much in these last five years, we are excited to see where the next five years will take us.

Saturday we got up early and met some great kids at the beach! It was such a fun morning hanging out at the beach, sharing and laughing with some really amazing kids.

After spending the morning with the kids, Dave and I joined up with some friends and had an afternoon of snorkelling....I think it was just what the Dr. ordered for Dave.  I think he could have stayed out all day!

 It was a great weekend and I am sad to say that school has taken my husband once again. But I am counting down until Christmas holidays, where I get to spend one entire month with him and we can explore some more of this island!!!

What is Limes?

A lot of friends and family back home have been asking "what is this limes you are talking about".  Over the last few weeks of being in Grenada, I have shared some photos and posts about the fun days we have at limes, or with the limes babies.

After doing some asking around (Thank you Miss Julie) I learned that the 'Limes Program' was an afterschool program that was orginally started by the Peace Corp. From there, entirely unsure how or why, a few individuals from the Significant Others group from SGU took it over and it has become a big part of  SGU life.

Currently, the 'Limes Program' is run by two loving and caring SO Board Members (Miss Julie and Miss Laura) that each week organize games, snack, activites, events, fundraising and volunteers to love on the kids of Grenada. 

Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at promptly 3:00pm the SO volunteers trek to the limes field and wait for our limes babies to meet us at the pre-school.  With recent volunteer support and lots of love from families across the globe, a new awning/over-hang and fence were able to be purchased to help keep the kids stay safe each week. It is incredible to see the love that has gone into making this program such a success.

Off to the races....crab races that is!

Once again Dave was studying his little heart out, along with every other 4 term student, so the SO group decided we needed a night out....Dave agreed! But I think he wanted me out so that I would stop talking his ear off...what can I say I missed him for a whole two months and we have some catching up to do!! hahaha.

Since arriving on the island, I have been hearing about the infamous crab races. And yes, it literally is what you think....an arena (hahah small wooden circle) and the competitors (the crabs).  Each person chooses a crab (they are numbered) and you place your bets on which crab you think will make it out of the arena first!!! Only in Grenada would this be a sport lol!

It is certainly something you must experience if you ever come visit us in Grenada!!!!!
